Counseling Center Denounces Racist Violence

Black Lives Matter.
The Counseling Center staff stands with our black, indigenous, and people of color students, staff and community members during this time of grief and protest following the senseless killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and so many others who are victims of ongoing racist violence.

Racism in the US continues to threaten black and people of color's lives and safety, at all levels, and we each have a responsibility to actively confront and dismantle racism. A first step in taking responsibility is becoming more educated about systemic racism and each of our roles. Check out our Instagram (@reachoutwsu) for more resources about anti-racism and to continue the conversation.

At the Counseling Center, we are also acutely aware of the significant impact that racism--systemic and overt--and racist violence has on individuals' and communities' mental health. If any WSU students need support during this time to process, grieve, self-reflect, we are available to connect. You can reach a counselor to check in Monday through Friday, between 8am-4pm. Call our main number: 413. 572. 5790 and leave a voicemail with a good number to call you back; one of our counselors will be in touch.

Counseling Center Coronavirus Update:

As of March 23rd, the physical Counseling Center (located in the Lammers Hall Annex) is closed for in-person counseling sessions for the remainder of the semester. However, the Counseling Center staff is offering teletherapy sessions to interested students, whether you've been a client with us before or not!

To schedule an appointment, speak with a counselor, or for information about additional supports the Counseling Center is offering during this difficult time, please call (413) 572-5790. Our thoughts are with all of our students, their families, and the greater community during this challenging time.
