Health & Safety Alert: EEE High Alert

September 27, 2019

The City of Westfield’s risk level for the mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) illness has been elevated to high.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), individuals should avoid mosquito bites by applying insect repellant when outdoors; avoiding outdoor activity between dusk and dawn; and wearing long sleeves, long pants, and socks when outdoors. Other precautions and information set forth by the DPH can be found by clicking here.

In addition to sharing and encouraging these individual precautions, Westfield State University will now adjust the schedule of its outdoor activities to avoid the hours between dusk and dawn, until further notice. The campus events impacted by Westfield State’s dusk-to-dawn schedule adjustment mostly include night athletic events. Please visit the athletics website for the most up-to-date schedule.
